Robert Heasley, Ph.D.

Robert Heasley's clinical work focuses on helping individuals, couples and families identify ways to make positive changes in their lives, their relationships and their communities. Much of Robert's professional work has been with men and boys, with parents raising sons, and with individuals facing challenges in such areas as sexuality, intimacy, parenting, and creating healthy relationships. Robert conducts workshops, leads retreats, and facilitates groups related to these areas as well. He is co-editor of Sexual Lives: A reader on theories and narratives of human sexualities (McGraw Hill, 2003), and author of numerous articles on such topics as raising boys, and on men, masculinities, and sexualities. Robert is currently President of the American Men's Studies Association, and is associate professor of sociology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he teaches in the areas of sexuality, gender and human service practice; he is also adjunct associate professor of psychiatry at the Upstate Medical School in Syracuse N.Y. Robert is co-creator of the photo-narrative exhibit, Shifting Gears: Finding intimacy in men's friendships (www.mensfriendships.org) and with his spouse, Betsy Crane, Ph.D. leads workshops on gender, sexuality, healthy relationships, as well as parenting.
